Oh so serious

The boy has been a bit of a challenge to parent this last week or so. It seems the terrible two’s have hit a month short of the mark.
This morning, though, he seems to have realised that and was simply a delight instead, despite the 6.15am wake up call. He was extra affectionate, and calm to go with it. At one point, I walked back into the lounge room and he wanted to be picked up. I obliged and he quickly laid his head down on my shoulder, clutching my other arm with his hand, as if to pull me in tighter. We probably stood like that for 10 minutes and it was one of those moments of parenting, where all the negative, hard stuff just fades away and you realise what a pleasure and a privilege it is to hold your child close. Like I said, we stood there for 10 minutes, until I realised that a) he’s not a small baby anymore, so b) he weighs a bit more and c) my shoulder was hurting. At which point I sat us down and he happily sat on my lap to continue our cuddle.
Here he is, looking a tad serious at the Bowden’s earlier today, who we had popped in to say see ya to (we’ll miss you guys, but we’ll be back soon).
